the cult of done

This is the attitude I need in life. I have a new manifesto. Via Dude Craft

  1. There are three states of being. Not knowing, action and completion.
  2. Accept that everything is a draft. It helps to get it done.
  3. There is no editing stage.
  4. Pretending you know what you’re doing is almost the same as knowing what you are doing, so just accept that you know what you’re doing even if you don’t and do it.
  5. Banish procrastination. If you wait more than a week to get an idea done, abandon it.
  6. The point of being done is not to finish but to get other things done.
  7. Once you’re done you can throw it away.
  8. Laugh at perfection. It’s boring and keeps you from being done.
  9. People without dirty hands are wrong. Doing something makes you right.
  10. Failure counts as done. So do mistakes.
  11. Destruction is a variant of done.
  12. If you have an idea and publish it on the internet, that counts as a ghost of done.
  13. Done is the engine of more.

I have this tradition – when I’m in a rut I rearrange. Move around the furniture, make new spaces and sections, put new things in the pool of light cast by the window, you know the story. So. I’m in a rut. But this time, instead of rearranging my craft space – because it’s tiny, there’s only one window and I need the light as it is – I might just try to get it organised. And functional. That’d be novel.

So I need inspiration. My favorite thing about looking at inspirational craft spaces is things sorted into tiny containers, and innovative use of wall space. Now, tiny containers are all good for me, but I’m in a rented sharehouse, so I’ll just have to file away vertical storage solutions for another time. You want some pictures? You might have all seen these before, but I hadn’t. This space belongs to Crafty Intentions.

WOW SO ORGANISED. And colour co-ordinated!

Look!! Vertical storage!! Ideas being filed away…

GAH. Tiny, organised storage. WANT. WANT.

Check it out! Her cactus pincushion! She made it!! Makes me positively swoony.

These pictures are via a roundup at the 6 o’clock stitch, so go check out the other featured spaces.

Now I want to go find tiny jars.

obey the kitty

Chairman Meow. Inspired. Wish I’d thought of. LOLcatz make me laugh. Such a simple soul.

Today I have been sorting my yarn collection. It’s taking a long time and stirring up a lot of dust, which isn’t great for my cold. Sneeze, sneeze. I haven’t partaken of the yarn arts for a couple of years now, and my collection takes up a *large* amount of space. Apparently there’s an old ladies group at my local council who knit clothes for Mongolian children or something, so they’re gonna get a donation of a lot of pristine quality yarn, just to get it out of my space. Lucky ducks.

it’s cold and wet and i’m cranky and sick and miserable. Bed time?
